When trying to make a test connection why do I get an 'Unable to complete network request to host <database>. Failed to locate host machine. Undefined service gds_db/tcp error?

The problem is that the driver cannot resolve the service name gds_db.
To fix this, edit the file in your windows system directory.

\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\services

Add the line

gds_db 3050/tcp
