Do you have to install the OOB Server on the same machine as your Database?

No. You need to install the OOB Server on a machine where there is an ODBC driver for your database. In some cases you might not have access to the database server machine so you can install the OOB Server on another machine where there is an ODBC driver for your database so long as that ODBC driver can communicate with the database server.

You may also want to do this if you have a firewall between your client machines and the database server which only allows connections on the database server port.

In the case of some database servers, it is sometimes more efficient to install the OOB Server on another machine. This can sometimes be the case with MS SQL Server which often runs with higher priority meaning an OOB Server running on the same machine does not get a fair share of the CPU.
