Why isn't the Easysoft JDBC-ODBC Bridge implemented as a Type 4 driver?

It is true that type 4 drivers use machine resources more efficiently than type 3 drivers, as there is no middleware server component. However, a type 4 driver is specific to a database engine. If a new database management system arrives, the type 4 driver needs to be scrapped or re-written. With the Easysoft JDBC-ODBC Bridge, you only need to install an ODBC driver for the new DBMS. No other changes need to be made. In addition, a type 3 driver provides both ends of the network connection, allowing connections to database engines that do not normally provide networked access.
